Wood stove from my seat in the office
Sunday morning I was not in good shape after finishing that awful garden. It was raining and cold and I got the wood stoves going well. I finished the bills/budget and sat down for a while.
Celery seedlings
The seedlings were in desperate need of water and attention, like raising lights and thinning. So I spent most of the afternoon, doing a little, resting, doing a little, resting until it was done.
My #1 intern was home around 5PM and we decided to watch a movie, ‘Jane Eyre’. I got fires going, shades pulled and when the movie had finished, was in bed just after 9PM.
On Monday morning, I got up around 6AM and got started on the amendment info. I was properly supervised, of course. Once I had sorted the inventory out, I got the amendment mix worksheets done and entered the amounts into the inventory. Now I knew what I needed for the year.
So I spent the rest of the morning researching where I could get the amendments and placing the orders. I got the mess cleaned up, finishing right around noon.
Just before I finished the wood guys arrived with the first load of wood. They filled the left side of the shed and got the post in. The next load got 2 stacks and some. They would be back on Tuesday to finish.
Next I got a load of dishes into the dishwasher and went to sit down for a while. As I was resting, half asleep in my chair, I realized what was wrong with the back storm door. The screws in the hinges had loosened up again.
So when the contractor arrived at 4PM, he tackled replacing the wallowed ones and tightening the rest. No more sticking, for a while… Then he got the cedar stakes he’d cut down and cut them to length for the signs in the New Herb garden.
Next we went up to the barn to find hardware cloth to make a cap for the root cellar’s sandbox. We found wood for the frame but when we got back, we decided to put the drawer pulls on the cabinets in the office.
They are the same ones I used in the kitchen. But when he went to do a drawer, he discovered they were too big for the inset. Sigh… So he’s going to make spacers for under the screw.
But with plenty of supervision, he was able to get the door pulls on. Once he’d gone, I got some supper made and just sat watching TicTok videos until I had to light fires and pull shades. I was in bed around 9PM.
On Tuesday I need to do laundry, clean up the kitchen, and the rest of the wood is supposed to come. My helper friend arrives at 10:30AM and he has one of the amendment orders to unload from his truck.
I’m hoping the wood guys are done by then as I really want to clean out the garden shed and get the covers out of the back of it and on the cold frame. But before I can do that, I have to clean out the cold frame and plant whatever survived in there.
But if the wood guys are late getting here, I will have to find another project to do. No shortage of those, it’s just deciding which one…
I have an appointment late afternoon and I will have to keep stoves going, at least in the morning because it’s to rain until midmorning.
So another busy day…
