There are many ways to re-use spent tires. Building a tire-wall is one way to transform your property with 0 cost!
This tire wall cost us nothing, other than a lot of labor. Necessary tools are pickaxe, shovel, and sledgehammer.
The rocks which are dug up go in the bottom of the tires to prevent dirt from falling out when they are stacked, and then the dirt is pounded into the tires to fill them and make them solid.
Then, Sod is placed on top of the wall and in some of the cracks to fill the holes. The sod ends up vegetating the wall so that in time, the tires won't be visible at all!
End result is a solid wall, built for 0 cost, with recycled materials, which will last a lifetime and ends up being a beautiful feature which can be combined with various forms of vegetation.
One of our favorite methods is to plant berry bushes in the top course of tires for food production, concealment, and a natural kind of barrier on top!
Indroducing curves into the wall is essential for its stability. If the wall is just straight, it can sway if you push on it, but with curves in it, it's solid as can be!
There's tons of great projects that can be done with recycled tires. And, pretty much every auto-shop is happy to give them away for free since they usually have to pay to dispose of them!
