The weather has not been great here in central KY. It has rained every day for about a week and it looks like it is going to keep raining. One project we have been putting off is expanding our chicken coop, so this week we took it on and got part one done. The master plan is to have three separate chicken runs, this way we can rotate the chickens around to fresh grass every week or so.
The mud slowed us down a little but did not stop us. My boys are master builders and they love playing in the mud, so it was a win win for them. My oldest son loves his chickens and he was super excited about having more space for his birds. Once we get the other pen ready he will be able to expand his flock to over 25 chickens. He cannot wait because that’s a lot of eggs.
All the lumber we used was from our barn that is falling down. We love reusing things here on the farm. The barn siding makes great board fence and the post we got from an old section of fence that we tore out about a year ago. We ended up with a nice chicken run for zero cost. You cannot beat that. It might not look like the prettiest chicken run ever made but it is functional and it was cheap. On the homestead that’s a great combination. Thank you all for stopping by and checking our blog out. Have a wonderful day.
