The quail eggs have begun to hatch and Monty has his new friend "back".
Last night we were awoke to the sound of peeping. Really, I was getting up to use the facilities in the night and we happen to have put the incubator in the bathroom. You can read about that here The peep peeping sound was amazing!
I took a bit of video of one of them in the egg, which I will share later, but here is one of the little guys exhausted and wet, just out of his shell which you can see behind him and another wet and tired chum behind him. They are so tiny and bedraggled when they first emerge.
By this morning, they were happily fluffy and running about the incubator, bashing into their unborn sisters and brothers.
Can you see the little guy in the back right corner? He is peeking over the shavings which seem massive but are really tiny animal bedding shavings. Quail at this early stage are about the size of a bumble bee.
And little did Monty know that last night when he was sleeping away, dreaming of his own lost friend Gobbles that he would wake up and have a new friend in his bed.
They are very happy.
I will share a video later, if I can convince to show me how to upload a video and if any of the garbled nonsense I videoed last night whilst half asleep is fit for consumption.
Now, the aquarium, which is acting as a brooder, is heating up as we speak and we are waiting patiently for the other eggs to start. They were placed in the incubator a day apart so there is hope for more than the five we have got thus far.
The chicken eggs in there are just from my new hens, curious if they will hatch. If so, our broody hen Leto is again broody and I am hoping to place the chicken chicks under her IF they hatch.
If you want to read more about my quail, here are a few more posts about them.
