This is our oldest male cat, Spot, he is 8 months old.
He's not feeling well in this pic because as you saw in the title pic he has a big abscess on his side.
We had noticed he was looking skinny and then we found this lump that developed in the last week and we were not sure what it was. I did some research online and determined it was probably an abscess or a cyst. We decided to treat it with Oregano essential oil and nano silver solution. We were rubbing it on his fir but I did not think it was getting down to the skin so saturday night I decided to shave his fir around it so we could rub the mixture directly on his skin and to do a closer examination to look for puncture wounds.
We did not find any wounds but the mass and the area around it was very sore and he did not like it being touched.
Sunday, Father's day I was examining the mass and noticed 2 dark spots on it that were not there before. 1 was about the size of pencil eraser and the other was half that size. We rubbed the solution on his skin and put him down. About 5 minutes later looks down at him on the kitchen floor and says "uhhhhhhhh something happened, there's stuff coming out!"
The mass, which we now know was an abscess had burst!!
Here is a video of what happened next.
WARNING!!! This video is NOT for those with a weak stomach!!
After we got it all drained, we bandaged him with gauze and wrapped a large ACE bandage around him to keep him from biting at it, since we don't have a cone. We redressed it late Sunday evening and left it on him over night.
I am happy to report he appears to be making a full recovery!! He is still taking it easy around the house but he is laying on that side now, so it tells us he's not in pain any more!!
Here is what it looks like now.
The dark spot on the left is the where the hole was that it drained thru. It's all closed up now.
Now we just have to get him eating more to get some meat on his bones.
He's going to bounce back, but for now he is just chilling on the couch.
