I've been reading a couple of blogs by and my friend @Goldendawne on their "homesteading bucket lists." They were fascinating, and had a lot of great ideas, but that got me thinking that these are "All time, before I kick the bucket" lists, while I've always viewed my efforts here on my little place as a journey, rather than a destination. I decided that I needed to sit down, and make up a list of what I'd like to get done - in the next year, and IT'S QUITE A DAUNTING LIST!!!
I had hoped to get a lot of this list done this year, but I had a little medical set back in May, and it kind of screwed my Summer. I lost a lot of opportunities to get stuff done, while I was ""Convalescing"". I'm still getting a little better each day, but I get tired easy, and have to take a nap. :)
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to the next Year, and hopefully I can get some check marks on my list. Getting anything done on your Homestead, always takes time and money. Things I never ever have enough of, but hopefully we can get some of it done.
My Brother In Law, has given us an old (89) panel van, and I've got to get it running!!! We have some vehicle issues, and I'm not the greatest gear head, so it's always a lot of work for me. My Suzuki (I know, but it was actually manufactured in America) needs open heart surgery, and I'm going to have to get it done, as soon as I can afford the parts.
I'd like to get the van painted, and I'll have to do that myself.
All kidding aside
I won't be plying the local kids with free candy to lure them in, but I WOULD like to make it look nicer, in order to advertise the little "Produce Stand business" we want to start.
We would like to have our little produce stand in the Garage (Which I desperately need to get cleaned out!!! Having the Van to haul stuff would help with that.) Our Garage Door is "FUBAR" so I want to close it in, with a sliding barn type door for the car, and a walk through door for the Produce Stand.
This involves walling off half of the garage!
I have an acre of "Fallow Ground" to work with (Point 4 of a Hectare,) and it will take a lot of work to get it into the production of veggies. I DID get a small hoop house built last Fall, so that I can extend the season a bit, and have organic (ish, not certified) veggies available to sell before any of the competition does. I was able to have Tomatoes, by June this year!!!
Of course, We'll be accepting Bitcoin, and Steem as payment for our vegetables!
We also hope to sell vegetable starts in the Spring, in 6 packs, and dried herbs online. In the Winter times (Future) I can stack up a lot of bird houses, "Whirly Gigs" for the yard to sell, and other little wood working yard decorations for sale. We can sell hanging baskets as well.
I got a little barn built a couple of years ago (In true GoatHollow fashion, I got it done enough to house animals, and didn't get it finished. Winter set in before I could get done.) Anyhow, I want to add a wood shed onto it, and convert the existing part to another greenhouse, for starting seedlings. I have a bunch of "Perforated Drain Pipe" and am planning on doing SOME "Earth Climate Battery" by burying it in the ground, and blowing hot air through it during the day to help keep the Greenhouse from freezing at night.
As I said earlier, this is a WHOPPER of a list. It'll take more money than I have for materials, and more time than I have available. (Oh, and I need to finish painting the house lol) Hopefully, over time, I can start getting some of these items marked off of the list........ It's a journey, not a destination. .............. Right??????
