On Friday, after another bad night, I was struggling to get going by 8AM when my 2 helpers would arrive. I went out to feed the cats and ended up spending 20 minutes taking photos of the lovely spring morning. Lily said I should have fed the cats first.
Dennis took her time coming up to the barn.
I was still in my pajamas and hadn’t gotten the dishes done or cleaned off the counter when they arrived. I got the counter done so my general helper could start filling pots.
I got my helper friend off to do some shopping and then tackled the dishes. I got out the seeds and charts and went to get dressed. Things went very quickly because I’d done so much prep work on Thursday.
This is what I started:
I don’t know if I miscounted (probably) or we did end up with 14 trays, but I had to wash 1 more to finish planting. *Blue Flax had been stratifying and came from the fridge to start sprouting.
We did the lower row first, as it was all things needing a heat mat. Then we put as many as we could on the top. The dining room window was full.
A couple that wanted cooler starting temperatures went to the porch. I also brought out 2 from the roundtop window and filled the north shelves.
That left 1 in the roundtop window. I moved it to the office and shut off all the lights here. With all the shelving set up I have a wealth of space for trays now.
The office windows were nearly full, I could have gotten 2 more trays on the bottom.
My general helper had left at 10:30 and I had 1 tray of kohlrabi left to do. I got that done and the boneset ready for the fridge and that’s as far as I got. I was wiped out from the standing and concentrating and could not clean up the mess.
My helper friend finally got back from shopping, but never got the seedlings or house plants watered. Most of the canned goods are still on the island.
I thought about going out to do a small garden, but just didn’t have the energy. I hated being inside on such a nice day, but oh, well… So I sat at the computer and edited all the photos I had taken. A book series I wanted to read had come in so I sat and read into the evening.
On Saturday, I will clean up the mess. My helper friend is coming to feed the seedlings and water the house plants. This will keep me from doing too much standing again. I hope to get outside and tackle a garden or 2. It’s supposed to be lovely again.
