Bookkeeping supervisor, on the floor because the table is a mess
Thursday morning it had warmed up a little from the last 2 cold days. But it was cloudy so I had to keep the stove going.
On the helper front, I spoke with my doctor and he is going to submit a prior authorization request for the 12 hours of help. But he warned it might take a while.
My general helper arrived at 9AM and we ran an errand. When we got back she started on cleaning the fridge and freezer.
I went in and started on the bookkeeping/budget, determined to finish.
Not a great shot but she did the inside and the outside too.
Look at the shiny surfaces and how neat it is!
It’s been a while since it was done and I guess I’d gotten used to the sticky handprints and spilled food.
The job was thoroughly inspected.
We went out to pick up an order and got that put away. Then she sat and mended a window shade while I finally finished the bookkeeping. With the brainfog as it is, I’ve no idea what kind of mess I made of it. I’ll find out at the end of the month.
She left early afternoon and I sat and rested. We started the prep for the coming storm later when Tom came to check the truck and put the plow on. He says the clutch is acting wonky so I have to call the transmission place about that on Friday. The forecast:
“Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph, from Saturday afternoon through late Sunday night.”
The temps started to plummet as the evening came on and the wind came up. I was about the start the masonry heater when I got a call from the new insurance. They went over the things covered, something that hadn’t happened the day I signed up, and it turns out only my primary doctor and eye doctor are covered. And several other things I should have been told and weren’t aren’t good news. Plus I’ve never received the joining packet nor the savings card, supposedly sent on December 12.
But I have until April to change if I find a better company. But there’s a lot of work to do to find one.
Tom came in to visit after the truck was done and I made a cornbread and we ate that while we talked. When he left, I had to keep feeding the masonry heater and the stove as it got colder and colder.
I found this about 2023 in the farming digest I get each day:
“The unusually warm year started in January, with temperatures ranging from 6 to 12 degrees F warmer than normal. Higher temperatures also prevailed in February, April, July, and most of the fall. The entire Northeast has been running a snowfall deficit, with the largest shortfalls occurring in New England, New York and northwestern Pennsylvania, according to climatologist Samantha Borisoff of the climate center.”

Looks like we might start the new year with plenty of snow but it’s still not as cold as it used to be.
Friday I need to write everything into the new calendar and I should start planning the gardens. The snow starts Saturday evening, so I need to make sure we know where the snow shovels are. The snow blower is ready. I’ll make sure the bird feeders are full again as I did that Thursday night so I hopefully wouldn’t have to go out in the cold to do it. But I might have to. Mostly I’ll be feeding the stove.
