On Monday morning when I pulled the shades up at 7AM the corn next door was this bright yellow color from the rain. It had started raining Saturday evening and rained until Monday evening.
I spent Saturday and Sunday crunching numbers so I would have a clue when I talk to the solar people about the inverter that hasn’t been working since January. Apparently there’s some sort of compensation. We lease the system so they are supposed to monitor and maintain it.
On Monday, if it hadn’t rained, I was supposed to have a BuyNothing person come out to dig Anne raspberry runners in the morning. Instead they didn’t come and it was cold in the house, and I’d had a bad night, so I fed myself and the cats and went back to bed.
Wildflower area in the rain
I got up at 11AM and decided I was tired of being cold, so I cleaned up the wood stove and lit it.
It was 62F in the house. We’ve always tried to keep it in the 70’sF and it took a while to get there. I put the circulating fan on and by afternoon the bathroom and hallway were warm. But that’s as far as the heat will go.
Little trees in the rain
If I want the new addition warm, I have to light the masonry heater. But if I do that, it will heat the house for the next 24 hours.
Once it warmed up some, I got the kitchen cleaned up and laundry started. My live wire granddaughter was supposed to come in the afternoon and we were going to harvest gourds for her school. But between no sleep for her mom and the rain, it was put off until Wednesday.
So far here there’s almost no color. That lighter color tree is usually bright yellow and is the first to lose leaves. It’s losing leaves, but there’s no color.
The back 40 also had no color on that rainy day morning.

House on that rainy morning
This tree is the only one with color and it’s had it since early August.
Gloomy rainy morning
I don’t expect Larry has had any experience with wood stoves, but being a cat, he soon figured it out.
He’s a pretty big cat and this photo where he stretches from my ankles past my stomach shows that. He spent a good part of Monday sleeping on me as I read or watched videos.
Pumpkins in the rain
On Tuesday my helper friend won’t be here but my general helper will. If the weather clears up, I want to cut down all the raspberries in the 7th Fence garden. If it doesn’t clear up, I hope to reorganize the herbs and spices so they are in the dark cabinet.
