Sunday I spent the morning working on bills/budget. Later I rested and read until the contractor came at 3PM. He fixed the seed starting support in the dining room window. Then he fixed the bi-fold door to the old root cellar.
Next he installed the altered hook for the inside clothesline and another hook for holding shirts. The last job was trying to unplug the upstairs tub. It took a bit of finagling, but he figured it out and now I know how to do it, once I’ve bought a snake. Sunday was a dreary cold rainy day.
Monday dawned clear and cold. I finished the bills/budget, got a shower and got ready to go to the first exercise class of the season.
I wasn’t sure how much I could do, but I guess I’m not in as bad shape as I thought. I was able to do all the work asked. And I wasn’t even really wiped out or sore.
But I took it easy the rest of the early afternoon because I was going out around 3PM.
I did take one decoration out of its box and put it in place.
At 3PM I left with my helper friend’s wife to go make a wreath for the doors in the Old Deerfield village. I haven’t done this since at least 2019, between my husband dying, covid, and lack of interest.
But my helper friend talked me into it and I’m glad he did. He’s a very talented wreath maker, as is his wife. They’ve been doing it consistently for many years, even through covid.
My wreath was arbor vitae, pine cones, seed pods, winterberry, cinnamon, and grasses. The top photo is just a few of the dozens of wreaths made each year.
My helper friend had grown straw flowers for his wreath and he had attended a flax making workshop and made a flax dolly. He put tiny straw flowers in her hands.
I was home just before 6PM. My son had lit all the lights and the tree and gotten both stoves going, so it was lovely coming home to the lights. I made supper, watched a Christmas movie and went to bed about 9PM.
Tuesday we are supposed to get the first winter storm, starting just about when my helper friend arrives at 9:30AM. I’m hoping it’s a bit late and he can get some errands done for me. We also need to feed all the house plants.
I need to do laundry, put the table cloth away, finish cleaning the kitchen, and start getting decorations out. And watch it snow…
