On Tuesday morning when my general helper arrived at 8AM, it was actually pretty nice outside.
She got busy weeding the area and moving the mulch.
I’d had no idea how soon we’d be able to get to the rest of the garden, so I had her mulch the 2nd section when it was weeded. She had to take a good deal of that up.
Then she got it raked, ready for amending.
It took her longer than she thought because of all the weeds coming up. So she still had this area left to do by the time she had to go.
She hoped to finish it on Wednesday night, but then we realized it would be dark. So I will have to try to get it done in the next week. She’s going on a short trip and won’t be back until next Wednesday.
Another pumpkin went bad, this time a white one. But I still have enough for the steps.
I was puttering around in the house, waiting for a phone appt at 9AM. There was a knock at the door and my Wednesday helper was there. She’d been sent to replace my helper friend. So I sent her on some errands while I did the phone call.
When she got back, we got all the crystals and things washed up and back in place. So the mess from the windows on this round was cleaned up. I still have the second floor to do.
The magnolia tree has lost nearly all its leaves and has nice fat buds for next year.
Next to the tree in the Big garden, I was surprised to find the celery was just fine after 2 hard freezes. Maybe I will get to harvest it.
The collards are all lace from the bugs but the kale and Swiss chard are still doing fine.
There are still a lot of mesclun plants and the parsnips are doing really well.
My son made a start in salvaging the kindling. I’m using the metal cans so it can go next to the fire or heater to dry out.
He still has a good size pile to sort through.
And Larry supervised the writing of this post from the mouse table. Makes editing photos interesting…
Wednesday I must get the window mess cleaned up on the second floor. I have 1 big window and 4 small ones to wash still up there. My brother comes home today so push has come to shove.
My Wednesday helper will be here and I plan to have her prepare the big squash that’s been on the counter for nearly 2 weeks. I want to make more roasted vegs for the freezer.
My general helper will be here at 5PM and we will do some shopping. Too dark for much else these days.
