And the sad news is that the poor crocus we rescued on Friday was eaten on Sunday, probably by the marauding groundhog we’ve seen several times. Fortunately it didn’t eat the one back by the porch.
Spent the morning working on the plant notes and finished the 2 sections (Around the House and Outlying Gardens) along with the last map, as the snow had melted from the west side of the house.
My tenant and my son got the sandbox moved, the 4” x 4” s cut to a safe size (tripping hazard) and my tenant put up the onion hooks.
We had to fit them in wherever we could around the vent pipe.
This was a dead space, so garlic will hang from the ceiling and onions below.
I only put up 6 strips of 4, but that gave me 4 more than in the old cellar. If we need more, there are more spaces we can use.
I went out to get some photos from around the farm. Dennis and Lily were rolling around in the sun in this space. You can just see Lily’s butt as she slinks off, being an uncooperative cat.
There are cattle panels supporting the hardware cloth. They’ve had snows of nearly 2’ on them in the past. But the heaviness of this snow apparently was too much.
It’s going to be a bear of a job fixing this mess…
Another casualty of that snow storm was my Big garden fence. The T post is bent and fixing that is a bear too. Then I have to get the fence back up on it.
Early spring on the Spring Equinox.
In the South garden the snow from the solar panels has melted back and I can see the buds on the daffodils again. As soon as the yard is raked, I must start cleaning these gardens out!
On Tuesday my helper friend will be here and I’m hoping to get some raking done in the back yard. I’ll set him to cleaning up the breakage in the shrubs from that last storm.
My brother wants corned beef and cabbage, so the meat is finally corned, so I will be cooking the meal all day on Tuesday. I also have to finish the laundry and clean up the kitchen. So another busy day.
