An acre of starlings
My husband got these shots of a huge flock of starlings in the middle pasture. There were easily a thousand birds, if not more. They’ve been gathering for a week. We first saw them last week roosted in the white oak tree.
They filled the pasture from fence to fence.
Our son moved the snake fence for the layers, giving them fresh grass. Then he put 14 bags of dried leaves in their pen. These held a far greater attraction.
The rooster is on the left side of the photo.
The rooster is hard to photograph. Usually when he sees anyone looking at him, he dashes into the coop. So I had to take this through the fence.
The yellow jewelweed was pretty much decimated this year. But the orange has recovered well and there are great mounds of it down in the swamp. The white flowers behind it have been there for a decade or more, but I’ve never tried to figure out what they are.
The Big rose is on its 2nd or 3rd flowering now. My helper friend tends to give it extra feeding each week, if there’s leftover.

The garlic chives have apparently recovered from being transplanted. They looked pathetic most of the summer. They are flowering very late, but are putting on a beautiful show now.
