In the mornings when I get up, if it’s to be a cloudy day, I will light a small fire in the woodstove. The masonry heater usually still has plenty of heat to radiate.
I feed the cat her first can of food and check my e-mail and start my posts. Once those are done, it’s usually around 6AM and I go out and clean up the kitchen (I am usually too exhausted to do it at night) and make breakfast.
Sometime around 7:15 I head to the barn to feed the barn cats. Sunday morning there was a lot of pale pink and steel blue in the sky. The camera refused to capture it. It just got the cold frosty part.
On Sunday morning I decided to finish the Christmas decorating. Mostly it was the cards my sister made over the years. I put them up throughout the house.
Once I’d finished that, I started back on the bedroom. I really needed to get the dining room table cleaned off.
In looking through what was left, I realized I’d not brought down the oil lamps. And I’d no place left to put one. So I went upstairs and took down one of the small shelves my husband had made and found a place to put it up. I had to take down the big picture that was here.
The big picture ended up between the 2 windows where this hanging had been. I love this hanging with its saying: “Get up when you like”. When I had a job outside the home, I often longed for that to be true. I’ve been reading that since the late 1970’s.
Once I was home with my son in the early 1990’s, it became more true as time went on. It’s one of my favorite things. I had to find a place for it and the attic door seemed the best place.
I collected all the linens I’d done on Saturday and put them down. I had 3 books I had to repair and I got that done too. I’d finally finished the bedroom and set about cleaning up the mess generated over the last 4 days.
After a rest, I vacuumed the bedroom and then the rest of the house. I was done by then. I’d have liked to have swiffered around and then washed floors, but alas, I was told to sit or else… Maybe on Monday morning.
The carpenter’s helper will be here and I’m hoping to shanghai him into moving furniture around upstairs, creating a sewing room I’ve been going on about for at least 6 months. That will probably be all I can accomplish, besides Monday laundry day.
