On Tuesday, I spent most of the day working on bills/budget and my helper friend came and did errands. On Wednesday I worked on bills/budget until I had to get ready to go to exercise class. Once home I made lunch and slept most of the afternoon.
On Wednesday at class I found this pretty candlestick on the Bring-and-Take table.
It’s still been cold at night. This was the temp at 7:30AM when I pulled the shades up. We had lots of sun during the days and not quite as cold at night all week. That’s going to change on Friday.
On Thursday I finished the bills/budget and sat down with a cup of tea after pulling the shades up. I’ve been rotating the chair for the old cat so he has sun on him.
My friend from up north came down because his water had frozen again this year. He needed my 2 food grade barrels to hold water until it thaws out. He says he’s going to try to get a well drilled this year but worries he might not find water.
He offered to tidy up the plowing at the barn. Tom had done a rough plowing up there last week. I’ve not been up to see how far he got.
I got some lunch made and waited for helper #4 to arrive.
The project for the afternoon was to sort out the bills and papers and file them to store. It took us about 3 hours to do but now everything is neat and ready to go to the attic.
We had nearly an hour left and so we repaired, and repaired, and repaired this wind chime. The shells are held on with fishing line and it has deteriorated in the sun. We’d get one back on and another 1 or 2 would come off. But in the end we got the loose ones back on and it went back out on the front porch.
There are more chimes to repair, but they are in the New Herb garden with 18” of snow. So they might get done later on.
The cracks have opened up again even though they were screwed down in place. You can see the plugs for the screw holes.
The one in the living room has also opened up.
There were no birds on the feeders when I pulled the shades up. My #4 helper left at 5:30PM and I had to go out in the dark to fill the feeders. It was going to get way too cold to leave until morning.
I had to pull shades and get both stoves going, then make some supper. The masonry heater wouldn’t burn well, so I was up until 10PM dealing with that. I watched more Doc Martin while I waited on it.
On Friday the cold serious cold moves back in. There will be no sun either, which makes it harder. It’s to be the worst cold yet. I have exercise class and my #3 helper comes at 12:30PM. I’m hoping to sort through the recycle box and get the stuff shredded and all of it out to the trash shed. That will be the last of the paper stuff from 2026.
The next project for me is transcribing my notes before March 1. I also have to do inventory on my seed starting, etc stuff and get what I need ordered. And I have to set up the starting charts for the 6 seed startings.
