On Monday morning I intended to get laundry started before I went to exercise class, but didn’t. I got my post up and then compiled a chart of all the responses to the listing for the farm.
I made it through exercise class but was tired when I got home. I couldn’t rest as I had 20 minutes to change out of exercise clothes and my neighbor picked me up to go to the event.
We were all restless for pizza. But time ticked on and none was brought out. They came out with plates of 3 tiny cupcakes.
They had been made by one of the other women. She said she made 116!
They set each plate of 3 between a group of us and we thought we each got one. But as we waited for pizza (“These don’t look like pizza!”) more plates arrived until everyone had 3 cupcakes.
We waited some more and my neighbor pulled the mint out of the top of one and ate it. Ten minutes later I did the same.
The pizzas finally arrived.
There was an everything, a sausage and pepperoni, and a cheese. Most people went for the everything.
We had a fun time visiting while we waited. An odd fact came of the conversations. My neighbor’s husband had died abruptly one morning while shaving almost 20 years ago. She said there were 6 more men who had died on our road since then, much more recently and several relatively abruptly. And there’s only 17 houses on our road!
We had our fill of pizza and dessert and when it was time to go, I asked if anyone had taken the small amount of leftover pizza. Nope, so I took some for supper.
My #1 intern got home in time to try to get the laptop running. We again had problems but were able to get into class on time. The topic was Communication and the various support things that were available just for farm transitions/ estate stuff.
The class ran over by ½ hour and I had gotten 2 pages of notes.
I finally got to bed after tending stoves around 9PM.
On Tuesday I was up at 5AM and typed up my notes from the night before. I got laundry started, and also got a load in the dishwasher. My helper friend called to tell me that his hours had changed and he doesn’t arrive until 10:30AM now. So I took it easy until he arrived.
He got the house plants watered, and some chores. Some of the squash had gone bad in the root cellar, so we cleaned that out for the compost. I went to get the hydrogen peroxide bottle out of the spare fridge and noticed, after 14 weeks!, that some of the sauerkraut had gone bad.
It’s only supposed to last 6 weeks. About ⅓ of it was still good, the batches made later in October and November. I hadn’t eaten as much due to the cough from before Christmas. The salt made it worse.
So we sorted through the jars and dumped them into buckets to go over the bank. Too much salt for compost. I got the jars in the dishwasher and finished cleaning up the kitchen.
Then he headed out to do shopping and errands. I sat down to rest. Later I went in to watch Doc Martin until he came back. I had an appointment late afternoon and had to scurry around after that pulling shades and lighting fires before I made supper.
I watched Four Weddings and a Funeral and then some Doc Martin. The stoves didn’t want to burn well so I was up until 9:45PM.
On Wednesday I have exercise class and I need to update my daily planner with all the helper changes. And I should finish laundry, clean up the kitchen, and work on my transcription. It’s to hit nearly 40F during the day and we’ll have sun, so a nice day. We’ll see…
