I had to go grocery shopping early on Tuesday morning. The COA van was picking me up. It was a pleasant surprise to see the driver dressed up. He told me that he wore this outfit when he worked the children’s train at Look Park. But there’d been no children’s train for 2 years, so he decided to wear it to drive the van.
I had looked for the Arcadia solstice event online when I wrote Monday’s post and could find no mention of it. I wrote to my friend and she soon realized she’d mistaken a posting they had up for 2015 as this year’s. No bonfire this year.
She wanted to go see the lights at Look Park so we drove through and looked.
She had found out that all the light displays were handcrafted at the Park by employees. They did a magnificent job! This poinsettia had to be over 15’ tall and was just perfect. They had replaced all the lights on all the displays, as some displays went back to other years. They used LED lights which are a real problem for me, especially the blue ones. So there were some displays, like the castle and the hummingbird that moved, that I couldn’t look at.
Then we got to her place and the tree was just lovely. She has truly mastered this form of tree decorating! She also had received Harry and David pears and had a lovely bleu cheese to put on the slices. There were also Christmas butter cookies. And of course there was the eggnog with fresh grated nutmeg.
One of the first of the ornaments I found was this turtle to the left of the candle. She had also gotten a Wonder Woman present from a friend and had the ornament on the tree.
She had originally only put 12 candles on. But as we looked at it, we decided it needed 3 more so we added 1 to this side and 2 to the other.
She had red and white mini lights on the tree also and could click them on and off. I forgot to get a photo of those. She had tiny glass icicles in place of tinsel. And lots of small red balls, some shiny, some with glitter, and some opaque. And all kinds of fascinating ornaments from tiny glass pansies to clowns of all types to cornhusk dolls of different types. And of course the pickle was hidden. She’d also hidden a peas in the pod ornament that was new.
It was such a joy to sit and gaze at the candles, or the lights and enjoy the assortment of ornaments.
But eventually it was time to go and we headed out. She wanted to go through Look Park again, so we did. It was a pretty late night for me but a wonderful way to spend the Solstice.
Wednesday I have the cabinet makers coming, and the carpenter’s helper will be here and we are cleaning out the spare room in the cellar. It’s to rain and freeze as ice, so inside where it’s warm will be nice.
