asked the other day how the seedlings were coming along, so I thought I’d put a couple shots of them in here. These are (back 2 trays) the storage onions, Cortland variety, that have always been under the T5 lights. They are ready to go to the cold frame, but will have to wait another week.
The front tray is the Walla Walla Sweet onions that have only been under the T5 lights for a couple weeks. There’s not a lot of room in there to get a good shot to show the vast difference between the 2 varieties due to different lighting.
The storage are up to 16” high, the Wallas maybe 11”. Stem thickness is also very different.
The ginger has me wondering why the green pot, a much later starter, is so very much higher than the ceramic pot. I am trying an experiment. I put the probe in the ceramic pot. I’m wondering if there’s a minute amount of current that made the difference.
They have had exactly the same watering, feeding, soil, light, and root stock. So we will see…
Outside, the forsythias are flowering. I have to keep them pruned up for the mower people. I intend to make a hedge of them farther along this stretch to hide the “mountain”. Those new plants are due in any time.
Along the fence line the daffodils are really starting to open up. My husband cut more posts and I marked them. Then he took them to the fence company for drilling out. So hopefully by the end of the month the fence will be repaired again.
Up at the barn Tuesday night my husband found Dennis the Girl in her usual spot on the riding mower. She’s still very standoffish and probably always will be.
Lily has become his loving cat, but just him. She runs from the rest of us. The two cats ambush each other all day long. The other day one was on top of the car, waiting for the other to come by. Pounce! Now they must look up in addition to all around.
A few nights back he saw the largest herd of deer yet, 16! There’s one huge buck who kept his antlers into January this year. But they are off now.
Thursday my helper friend is here and we will mess about with seedlings while it rains. Friday is to be cloudy, windy, and cold, as is Saturday. So I will not be going outside to work. I have plenty of inside projects to do.
