On Thursday in a small window between rain showers, my son and I got the cold frame covers out of the back of the garden shed and onto the cold frames.
There are 2 of these 6’ x 9’ cold frames. This one had a feverfew and a snapdragon that survived the winter. I got both of the frames raked out, removing all the branches, leaves, acorns and weeds.
The other one needs a lot of work. Something dug it all up, and I need to take up the plastic, level it, and put down new plastic. But there wasn’t time or energy for that on Thursday.
The covers had been thoroughly washed before they were put away last autumn. I had to replace one of the ropes that held them down. The wind out here can get bad, so they are kept roped down at all times.
This job was supposed to have been done a week ago but better late than never. Hopefully the coming warmth and sun will have heated them up by next Wednesday.
I didn’t get a lot more done and went to bed early.
Friday is the usual chaos. My helper friend and my general helper will be here and I’m hoping to get some of the work on the porch done. It’s to rain all day.
A lot of the stuff I need for expanding the shelving has shipped; the brackets are coming by UPS, the least reliable way. They aren’t due to arrive until Wednesday, if I am lucky.
