1st Fence garden – unnamed variety
It seems so strange to have daffodils so open this early in April. My records do show that back in 2012 we had another super early spring and they were opened like this on March 23rd.
2nd Fence garden - unnamed variety
As you can see, I put a marker with a name by each bulb, so I don’t dig them up accidentally. But I’ve not been able to find a marking device that lasts even 1 year in the last 20 years. So I keep notes of what I plant and try to figure out by counting markers in each section.
3rd Fence garden – ‘Ice Follies’
I also made a map of each garden and this helped identify this variety.
4th Fence garden – a mix of tiny narcissus: ‘February Gold’ and ‘Quail’
7th Fence garden - unnamed variety
Many of these were planted back in the 1990’s, before I kept really accurate records.
West garden – the first ones to start buds, unnamed variety
This one was planted back in 1995 and has done well each year.
West Shed garden – ‘Ice Follies’ and ‘Passionale’
West Shed garden – ‘Tweety Bird’, a small narcissus
I’m not terribly fond of these long trumpet types, and they seem to have survived very well wherever I planted them. I got them at the Smith College Bulb Show Sale many years ago.
East Shed garden – supposed to be either ‘Ice Follies’ or ‘Barrett Browning’
It doesn’t really look like either one, as ‘Ice Follies’ is much lighter and ‘Barrett Browning’ is much darker….
So these are the ones that are blooming now on the farm. There are many more to come. I desperately want to clean the beds and but down BulbTone for them, but the Big garden is more important this year.
