My friend had posted that our local garden store had their pansies in. So we decided to go over and get our pansy fix on the rainy Saturday. I selected four all face ones and two 6 packs of viola face ones too. Hers are at the front of the cart.
I also wanted to get grass seed for where the dumpster had been and some potting soil and a planter for up under our farm sign. The box my husband had made many years ago had rotted away. There were no planters in the garden store that were what I was looking for. I got some scented sweet pea seeds and these items and we came home. I left the pansies out in the rain.
had reminded me that I’d not gotten the photo of the only crocus so far. So I went out and got one. It’s in the back of the New West garden by the front steps.
Behind it in the very back, the snowdrops are flowering and a single coltsfoot has a bud. It’s this mess I hope to clean out on Sunday.
Inside the clivia is really trying to put on a show. The flowers are pale from not being fed much. If I can stay on top of that, future flowers will be deeper in color.
The pink primrose is still flowering and now there’s a single yellow flower too. The begonia is flowering its heart out. The spider plant I nearly killed a couple months ago (by overwatering) has recovered and is flowering and sending out new shoots.
At noon on Saturday I finally got the kitchen cleaned up and started the corned beef. I planned to simmer it for 3 hours and see how it was. It turned out beautifully. I shut it off as the contractor had arrived.
Between the contractor’s trips to the cellar, I peeled and cut up carrots and parsnips. I can’t do potatoes so the parsnips were the stand in. I managed to get them all ready just in time to put in at 5:15. By the time he left, they were done.
Everything turned out wonderfully. The beef was tender and delicious and all the vegs were just right. So using chuck roast for corned beef is possible!
I’ve not had to light stoves for the last 2 nights, but I did light the wood stove on Saturday morning to take the chill off. I can’t ever remember not having the stoves going in March!
On Sunday I plan to be outside as it’s to be sunny and cool, in the 50’s. It’s the New West garden first and then around to the New South. I might finish that as it’s not too bad.
