Wednesday morning was cold and foggy and there was ice on the windshield when I went to the barn. The stoves had done well in the night but I added wood to the wood stove at 4AM as there wasn’t to be sun until later in the day.
The sun was well up and still the fog hadn’t burned off.
I had hoped to mow up the leaves in the yard in the afternoon but I’d arranged with my tenant to go south to pick up the pipe for the root cellar ventilation project when he got out of work.
I took some of the gourds in the tote full and arranged them on the porch railing.
I wonder how many will still be there by Thanksgiving....
When I looked out the window, I noticed the little sugar maple tree had some pretty color. It will be spectacular when it’s reached some size.
Because it was far too cold and damp for me to work outside, I decided to change over the winter clothes from the summer ones. This entailed many trips up and down the stairs as the downstairs cedar closet was a casualty of lack of funds.
But in the end I got it all done and then sat down for a couple hours to rest. My old slippers have gotten quite stretched out of shape and don’t stay on very well. I had collected sewing materials and elastic on my last trip upstairs and so I sat and messed around with them trying to tighten up the opening. I was moderately successful.
The contractor came out mid afternoon and set up his staging for starting the roof. He got the drip edge run. He will be back before the end of the week to get more done. The staging will have to be moved by Saturday if the wood guys bring the last of the wood.
My tenant messaged me that he was stuck late at work so we arranged to go for the pipe on Thursday afternoon. My son was making us supper and I’d already laid both fires for the evening burn. So I zoomed out and got the mower and managed to get all the leaves up before supper.
Once the fires were going I headed to bed.
On Thursday my general helper will be out but it’s to be very cold in the morning. The plan was to clean out the garlic area and get it ready to plant on Friday. There will be 3 of us on Friday to plant, but again it’s to be very cold in the morning. I didn’t get the prep work done on Wednesday, so we can do that first inside. So we will see what we can get done.
I can’t work in the afternoon on Thursday due to an appt. But I could on Friday, so I might see if she can come later on Friday. It’s supposed to be warmer on Saturday, so maybe she can come then too in the afternoon.
