It was cooling off in the office when I woke at 2AM, so I put more wood in the stove. I checked the thermometer when I was finally up for the day and it read 25F. Yup, it got cold on Saturday night. And dry as a bone inside, down to 30%.
Everything was covered in frost as the sun came up over the trees to the west.
When I looked out to the east, I could see fog rapidly rising from the river in the distance.
The first job of the day was to peel the dried celery off each liner. It’s not as easy as it looks because the liners are silicon and very susceptible to static electricity. I had to be content with getting the larger pieces into the jar.
I packed the jar and got the 1¾ dehydrators into the half gallon.
The next job was to wash all the liners, and the 2 trays where the juice ran off the tray. There’s a lot of dust on each one, but it doesn’t brush off, just hops around the liner from the static.
Once I got that done, I finished chopping the celery and got 4 more trays into the dehydrator. They would finish in late evening, but I will leave them until Monday morning. I’ll get the salt made up and that will be a year’s worth of celery salt.
Late afternoon it was rather nice outside and inside, but by 5PM it’s turned cold and the sun is gone and it’s dark soon after 6PM.
Hard to believe October is over. I almost finished my October list, just parsley and frosted plant cleanout left to do. Oh, and Tom reminded me I’d never finished putting the hoses away.... Best get on that really soon...
