It was mid 50’s outside when I got up at 4:30AM. The house was roasting at 85F! But by 10:30 the temps had dropped 20° and continued to drop the rest of the day. The wind was wicked out there! But the sun came out early and kept the house warm without the stoves until about 5PM. I felt better about being inside, as I could not have worked in the gardens in that high wind.
I got the varieties selected for the remaining plants for the Big garden and opened the planner. I’d put 7 hours worth of work into creating the plan on Thursday and this is what I got when I opened it. I rebooted and rebooted and restarted and restarted. None of the plans had anything on them!
I e-mailed the people who run the site and just kept trying to find something! Then at 8:15 it all appeared. But I’d lost all the time I needed to be ready when my helper came. So I taught her how to use the planner and we filled in the remaining plants. I taught her how to print it out and set her up to copy it to the graph paper plan.
Then I set about selecting the varieties for the Small garden. All the sprawly plants will be in there this year. I had to keep them all on the left as there were some planted on the right in the last 2 years.
Once I had them entered, I printed the plan and transferred it to the graph paper plan for this garden. (My helper had left to do her online college course.)
Once I had the 2 veg gardens done, and their seed orders made, I started on the New Herb garden. I got all the herbs and flowers I want to grow this year onto the plan. But I was too tired to start orders and selecting varieties.
My helper friend was here Friday morning and the space between the house and woodshed is a huge muddy mess. He dug a trench down the side to try to drain it. But it won’t really drain until the feet of frozen ground thaw, and that’s the north side of the house.
My general helper can’t come all next week so I will have to finish the plans and seed orders by myself. I hope they are legible… I will be working on the New Herb on Saturday and hopefully by Sunday I will have seed orders ready to go. I'm only 4 months late doing it…
