On Saturday morning while it was still dark, I made all the signage.
Then I had to go out and clean up the mess of pumpkin vines left from Friday. That wore me out! The tent guys were coming and needed access. I didn’t have enough energy to finish the job, something I delegated to my son.
The tent guys arrived at 10AM.
They had the tent up by 10:30. The screen tent arrive about 11:30 but my son’s phone had died and being a young person, he HAD to go get a new one. I didn’t see him again for 6 hours. I was on my own. I put all the signage up next.
He had started on the pumpkin mess I’d not finished and set up tables under the tent.
I harvested all the squash that had been left in the garden. There were no pumpkins. I got acorn, Sweet Meat (green ones) and kabocha (orange). The gray buckets held the bad ones and the old summer squash for the chickens. Tom would take those.
A friend had brought more tables and chairs and I had gotten my card table covered for use as a mask and hand sanitizer station at the back porch.
I finished moving the tables so there was 6’ spacing and good flow around them. Then I set 6 chairs for each 8’ table. I have covers but they will go on Sunday morning.
It was after 1PM and I died about then, too exhausted to do more. Tom arrived, thank goodness, and he set to work on the list. He finished the pumpkin mess, fixed the weedwacker (whose pull rope had broken the night before), moved the 2nd load of tables and chairs and cleaned the chairs, and then we both set up the screen tent.
It turned out the screen was not in the bag. He also dragged the grill over, cleaned it and made sure it was working and had enough gas.
I’d run a power cord to the Memories table but didn’t know if there was actually power. The carpenter hadn’t come to paint the front door and I called him to see where the 3 outlet cord was and to find out if he was coming. (He wasn’t) Then I found a lamp to test the power and it was on.
Tom will set up his laptop so the slideshow runs, then the Memorial he had done on the boat, alternately. He will also set up my husband’s music to play during the day.
The table will have my husband’s pictures hung near it, books for writing stories in and places spaced out for watching the video and slide show.
My son arrived back and set to weedwacking, until the weedwacker broke again. Tom will have to fix it, again.
I rested, ate, and got the vacuuming done on the first floor. After another rest, I got all the floors washed. Then shower and bed. It’s to be another cold night, so I should sleep well.
Sunday will be chaos, the weed wacking to finish, final set up to do, final cleaning, and a shower for me including hair washing. Long list…
Tom will come at 9, the carpenter at 8 and my son will be up sometime around then. All to be done and ready by 11AM…
