Thursday started with doing the chickens in the rain. I had to take out their bell waterer as we are about to drop into the 20’s at night for the next week. I rigged up a small Fortex pail, hopefully small enough they can’t fall in it, and hung it up. Fortex are good because you can break the ice out more easily without breaking the pail.
My helper #1 arrived at 8AM and we harvested a large bowl of parsley and continued filling the dehydrators. She was the best helper I’ve ever had at this job! We got 1 dehydrator filled by the time she had to leave.
All during this time the phone is ringing off the hook, I think there were at least 20 calls. Volunteers and egg customers are going in and out. There were about 10 people in and out over the course of the day. I had some shopping done, lots of wood brought in, 2 dehydrators full of parsley finished, and sold 5 dozen eggs. There’s still a good bit of shopping left to do. I’m trying to stock up so we don’t have to go to the stores for a good long while.
A friend started the set-up of the IPad the BuyNothing person had gotten for me on Wednesday. I am totally clueless about these things, especially as I don’t have a cell phone. She’s going to give me a tutorial on Saturday morning. My husband’s laptop died at the hospital, so he’s going to have to arrange to borrow one of their IPads.
I got one heater going out in the addition as the water pipes are charged. On Friday I need to clean the other one as it was in the brooder room and is full of chick dust. I will need that one Friday night and for the next week.
On Friday my original helper friend is here. He will be making me 2 large meals. I’ve got a bunch of phone calls to do, and I was supposed to be hauling in leaves. But the forecast is for an inch of snow during the day, so that’s not happening.
I’ve yet to change out the summer clothes for the winter clothes, so I hope to do that in the afternoon, once I get the heater cleaned out and working. I also have to set up a heated water bowl for the cats at the barn.
So another busy day, while snow falls…
