This was the mess I was tackling on Sunday. I got out there at 8AM and got started. I started at this end.
This was the area I dreaded as it had oil everywhere. My brother had brought a large spray bottle of degreaser for this mess.
Every drawer of every cabinet had tools, trash, nails and screws, etc and usually mouse nests in them. They all had to be sorted and cleaned out. The drawers of the wooden cabinets had to have soap rubbed on them so they would move smoothly with weight in them.
My tenant came out around 8:30 and started on the 2 bays of the aisle. My brother arrived about 9AM and was a huge help identifying things I didn’t recognize.
My husband had inherited his father’s huge collection of tools, so there were a lot I’d never seen. There were also an enormous number of parts to small engines and cars and trucks that we had no idea what they were, all new. My husband had been repairing all equipment for nearly 50 years, so yeah, a lot of this stuff, all with no indication of what it went to.
My tenant’s fiancée came out about 9:30 and the 2 of them got the dust and cobwebs knocked down, the aisle cleaned out, and raked.
They both got all the wood into the loft. Now we could get to the store room with stuff. They quit about 11AM as she had to go to work. They did a great job and I’m so pleased with their work.
We’d gotten this whole end of the workshop cleaned out and organized. We went through every drawer and shelf.
Then we started on this side of the door and shop. Neither of us wanted to tackle the greasy other side. We made it to the back cabinet and had started it when I just had to stop. My brother wanted to keep going, but I just couldn’t. So this is as far as we got in the workshop. It’s much farther than I thought we’d get done in one go.
The truck was loaded with stuff for the house workshop and other stuff. There wasn’t much for a dump load, so that was stacked farther down the aisle.
And you might have noticed I had backed the truck into the barn to protect the stuff from damp. I don’t believe a vehicle has been in the barn since at least 2018. There wasn’t room.
So this is what I hope to tackle on Monday. It’s supposed to be another nice day.
I was very tired, and I discovered when I undressed for a shower, pretty cold. So I was done for the day. I spent the afternoon watching the last season of Doc Martin.
My brother made us Corn Chowder from a recipe he’d found in the old cookbook I mentioned a few days ago.
On the way back from the barn to get photos, I noticed that daffodil in the South garden still hadn’t opened. I had thought it might in the warm sun of Sunday. Maybe on Monday…
