So I got a phone call about 11AM on Monday morning from the animal shelter. They were concerned about Larry. When we were there on Saturday afternoon, he seemed to be doing fine, active and seeking lots of attention. It was his brother Logan I was worried about, as he was obviously terrified and hiding in a dark corner.
They said that Larry wasn’t doing well at all and he had an eye infection that needed to be treated. Would I be interested in fostering him for the week it took to treat it? I said absolutely, but I had to arrange transportation.
I also had the gutter guys coming to check out the gutter problem between 12:30 and 1:30. The shelter was open between 12:30 and 2PM and was ½ hour away.
My neighbor said she was up for the trip so we were just waiting on the gutter guys. They showed up around 1PM and were we able to leave just before 1:30. We made it with a few minutes to spare. Larry wasn’t the chipper cat I’d seen on Saturday.
But I was delighted to see that Logan had come out of the terror and was just as friendly and seeking attention as Larry had been on Saturday.
His coloring is much prettier than Larry’s but all that long hair was too much for me to care for. He was also much heavier, fat, than Larry.
But he was very sweet too, and now that he is doing well, I am sure someone will adopt him.
Larry realized I had come back and was spending time with him while we waited for paperwork, etc he became more active and seemed happier.
When he saw me patting Logan lots he came over and hissed at Logan, “This is MY person!”
I did see that someone had started eating and using the cat boxes. So that was a good sign.
Logan weighs a good deal more than Larry, but Larry is very solid, no lightweight!
So eventually we were able to load him into the carrier and off we went. He made very soft mewing noises in the car, not at all annoying. But he was relatively relaxed for the ride.
I let him out when we got home, closing off the upstairs, my bedroom, and the cellar. He explored around, got lots of patting, and found a couple hiding places.
I had to put drops in his eyes in the evening and with a towel wrap, he was fine for that. I took down the blockade to the second floor and let him go up. He likes peering around the banister to see what’s going on downstairs.
So Larry is home until next week when he goes in to be checked and then he will be formally adopted.
