I did it! I got the area for transplanting cleared out, and I weeded the previously done areas. I left the onions and garlic for another time though.
The Echinacea we transplanted into this garden has done pretty well and has started to flower. It is right next to where I was weeding.
On the other side of the Echinacea, the Walla Walla Sweet onions are doing very well. They are mostly the size of baseballs.
On the other side of the onions are the French Grey shallots. Looks like they need to be harvested soon.
Next to the shallots is the garlic. It’s nearly ready to harvest.
Garlic is ready to harvest when the 2 bottom leaves have turned brown. When most of the plants have 2 brown leaves, in another week or so, I will dig them up and hang them to cure.
When I weeded and mulched the garlic and onions, I left a cleome plant at the end of each row. They have just started to flower.
There were 2 nasturtium volunteers at the other end of the garlic rows, so I left them. I’m hoping they get real big and I can dehydrate them for the layers. They are also good in salads.
So now I can start transplanting into and mulching this cleared area.
