New Herb garden - Row 4, sneezeweed in the rain
It started raining on Friday and I was much worse with the back pain. On Saturday morning my brother brought me back to the Emergency Room as I couldn’t really walk or move. I was finally seen within an hour. They prescribed prednisone something I’d been given once before decades back for a similar back issue.

They’d given me the first dose at the hospital on an empty stomach and it had started to work by the time I got home around 11AM. I’d spent most of my time since Wednesday either asleep or on the couch.

On Sunday I was a good deal better though still in pain. I think I got a load of dishes in the dishwasher.
By Monday morning we’d gotten 4” of rain. And it continued to rain into the night.
I had lots of calls regarding my health insurance. I’ve gotten a new care manager from the company that provides my helpers. She seems to be much better than the previous one. But I’ve heard nothing new on the appeal yet.
I have already gotten approval for all 12 hours for washing windows in October. I need to call and schedule the work.
I managed to get the previous week’s laundry folded and this week’s washed and folded. I got the kitchen cleaned up and fielded lots of phone calls. My neighbor who had transported Larry all those times to the animal shelter called early to say her husband had died on Sunday night. It was not unexpected, he’d been doing very poorly for a while. She asked me to call the neighbors for her. So I did that.
Larry has discovered there’s animals outside in the yard and spends time sitting at the doors watching them.
For the first time in a long time I felt like cooking. It was supposed to be cool and rainy so I thought a beef stew would be good. It turned out there was some sun in the afternoon and it was humid from the rain. But I made it anyways.
I can’t eat nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, etc) or shouldn’t, due to they cause pain for me. My brother introduced me to batata and it works very well as a potato substitute in many dishes. So that’s batata in the stew.
Tuesday I will have my general helper back (YAY!) and my helper friend. I plan to make a lot of spaghetti sauce in the 2 new-to-me roasters. I plan to set them up on the back porch as it’s to get into the 80’sF.
My tomatoes have not ripened so I have ordered two 20# boxes from the organic farm store. This ought to keep us out of trouble for a while.
