On Friday morning when I got up at 4:45AM it was 4F outside. My son had kept the stoves going in the night and it was nice and warm inside.
When I pulled the shades up at 7AM it was dark and cold outside. I got my post up and was trying to get ready for the day when my helper friend arrived early at 7:45AM. We started on the wreaths, getting them fluffed up and ready to go outside.
At 8:30AM he left to do errands and I finished the wreaths and got them hung up. I got a shower while he was gone and cleaned up the kitchen.
I had gotten 2 ladles for my every day silverware and they needed polished up. One of them was very tarnished and took a while.
Once I’d finished that, he was back with oranges and we sat down and each made a pomander. Mine hung in the roundtop and his was in the office. His was much nicer than mine with a pretty design.
I unpacked the boxes and totes and started setting things out.
He went up to the attic and got the iron stocking stand and we got that set up.
Last I got my little office tree out and set up. The boxes were empty and I was missing my advent calendars and a framed item. So I went back up to the spare room and finally found them under the boxes. (Nothing was supposed to be put on top of them…)
So I got the big advent calendar hung on the back porch door and the kittens one on the cellar door.
The framed item was old Christmas cards and that was hung on the laundry room door, above.
He carried all but one box upstairs. I was too tired to stand and put up my sister’s handmade cards so there were still containers to put back in the last box when I finished.
I sat down for awhile and then the guy getting the pumpkins arrived at 12:15PM. We hauled the totes out to his truck and emptied them. He was interested in all we did out here and wanted to see the root cellar. So I gave him a tour of the pantry, root cellar and masonry heater. We got to talking about farm availability in the area and I mentioned I’m going to start a transition program on Monday. He was interested in that and so I sent the link off to him. We had talked for about an hour.
After he left I sat and read my Christmas book until it was time to turn on the lights and tend the stoves.
I made supper and watched 2 Christmas movies and was in bed by 8:30PM.
On Saturday I will finish the decorating, get ready to go to the dump with my brother, and putter around the house. I might make Christmas cards or a present I’ve planned. My #1 intern will show up at some point and teach me how to do Zoom on her laptop. Everything I have is too old to run zoom, I’m told. Then I will have the weekend to practice zoom with Tom, who is visiting down south. It’s to be another cold gloomy day…
