Deeper cold arrived New Year’s Night, down in the low 20’s. Still not as cold as it used to be, but more like winter. Lots of frost in the morning coating everything. But it’s to be a sunny day, something I’d forgotten what it looked like.
I’ve been getting up later every morning after 6AM, sometime to 6:45AM. This messes me up, as I count on the early morning for making posts. On Tuesday it was around 6AM, I think. I found I had a hard time with brainfog all day. Even so, I did attempt to get the bills started.
But the lamp near me kept browning out and nothing extra was running. It’s been doing it every morning since the cable was repaired. I was sick of it, so I called the electrician at 8:30AM, who said it was the electric company’s deal (I figured that) and that they had a recorder they could put on the line to see what was up.
So I called the electric company and they sent someone out and he did testing and determined there was something wrong. He had to turn the power off to do it, for ½ hour, and when it went off the non-working solar inverter started beeping again.
So I asked if he could look at it, to see how to make it stop. Last time it beeped for 12 hours before stopping. He looked at the meter outside and said, but the whole system had been disconnected. What!?! He showed me, it was. Apparently when the technician for the solar company was out in September, he shut it off. Great, no wonder there’s no credit at all. Sigh…
My general helper was to show up at 11AM but messaged to say more like 11:30AM. I’d tried to start breakfast while the electric guy was here and got distracted and left 2 pots on the gas stove. My son found them when he got up because of the beeping. Sigh… Fortunately neither were damaged.
I called the agency to see what was happening with the paperwork for my helper. It had been approved, but the funding section hadn’t been done because everyone who could do it went on vacation the Friday before Christmas and the first one back would be on Wednesday. Sigh…
The electric guy said they’d bring out the recorder and on the strength of that, maybe they’d put in a transformer at the end of the driveway. He said it was a long run to the house and then it had to go 2 sections down to the next transformer, much too long a run. Somehow I doubt I’ll be getting a transformer any time soon…
I eventually got my breakfast made and eaten around 11:30AM. Then I tried to pull myself together and get started for the day.
When my general helper arrived, the first job was to get the squash into the root cellar. But first we had to make liners for the bottom of the cages. I had just enough liner left for 2 of the cages. So we got that job done.
Then I got a list made and we headed out to do shopping and errands. Brainfog went with me and I left my wallet on the counter of the service desk. But they found it and returned it before I checked out.
Once home we put the groceries away and I made lunch. She started dusting the living room. It hasn’t been done in months so it was nice to see clean surfaces again.
By then I was pretty wiped and just sat in my chair the rest of the afternoon and read. I have an author “Miss Read” That I have loved for over 30 years. I read a lot of her books when I was sick during pregnancy.
Miss Read’s first book
I have many of her 2 series and some of the stand alone books. My sister gave me “Emily Davis” for Christmas and that’s what I was reading.
On Wednesday no one is here and the cloudy skies return. There’s a snowstorm brewing and heading our way. Tom said he’d come out and get the plow on the truck and make sure everything is ready. I plan to try to work on the bills/budget and keep the stove going.
