On Tuesday we made our first butter. We were only able to get 1 gallon of cream, as there’s a high demand. We will be making butter each Tuesday in June until I have enough for the year.
The cows just went out full time on pasture last week. Every time the farmers planned to go full time, it would snow. So we got our gallon on Saturday and ideally we would have made the butter that day or Sunday.
But my helper friend is the buttermaker and he doesn’t come until Tuesday. So Tuesday is butter day. This first time making butter yielded ½ gallon and 1 cup of buttermilk and the rest butter. The yield will change week to week. This week with 1 gallon of cream we got 3.25# of raw cream butter.
But we don’t have pigs this year, so the buttermilk has been offered on BuyNothing. I hope someone can use it….
