I was pretty wiped out on Tuesday after Monday’s marathon gardening. It was also raining. So I decided to sit and make the garden plans. I’ve used this online planner for several years now and it has saved me putting things in the wrong places in the rotation.
I normally have this done in December each year and put my seed orders in before Christmas. But alas… I use this site.
I have it set to draw from 3 years prior gardens and tell me if I am about to make a mistake. The red areas are places I’ve planted an allium in past years. The warnings shade from deep red to pink with how far back the item was planted. You can see at the bottom I planted the garlic rows just outside of these red areas.
Because I am not growing for 2 or 3 people anymore the garden has shrunk. Lots of open area still. The black circles and squares are the remaining flowers to be removed.
There’s so much room in there, I might try starting an asparagus bed again. Or something else I’ve not grown before or in a long time.
Once I get everything in place, I draw a graph paper map to take to the gardens. The printed one would be useless the first time I got water or mud on it. Plus I can’t make changes as I go.
I got the Big garden done and realized I didn’t have anything to plant in the Small garden. It had garlic planted last October and that’s it.
On Wednesday it’s to rain again and my intern is coming. We will plan the New Herb garden and work on getting it drawn on graph paper. We also have seedlings to thin. Lots of stuff up now under the lights.
