On Thursday it was raining when I got up but it stopped by 7AM. It was far too wet to go to the gardens so I stayed inside and worked on spring cleaning the office all day.
I got the kitchen cleaned up and then started washing up all the lamps and things that had been sitting on the counter for 2 weeks. Then I carried all the plants that had been sitting on the 8’ table in the office to the kitchen. I got them cleaned, washed their pots and jars, and left them in the kitchen.
I even got out the metal polishes and did the silver things that had been waiting for months to be done, and 1 brass plant pot.
All the standing work to do this wore me out and I had to go sit and rest every hour or so.
My helper friend arrived at 11:30AM and he started cleaning up the wood box and I started on the old desk. I took out everything in the top section and dusted it, dusted and polished the insides, and put it back.
He finished before I did so he did the hearth area, including vacuuming the stonework.
Then we started on the middle section of the desk. I had to go sit down and he started on the drawers at the bottom.
Next he started on the new desk after I had done its drawers. While he was doing that, I started carrying plants back in and some of the clean things from the kitchen.
We got the computer desk area cleaned up and moved onto the cabinets under the 8’ table. I did the first one in the corner. It had a big rolling case of medical records I wanted to get out and put in the attic.
It was so heavy I managed to knock down the shelf, knock the drawer off its track and break open a box of CD cases. So then I had to fix that mess. Eventually everything was out, vacuumed off, and repaired. I got the cabinet cleaned and put most of it back, after finding a new box for the cases.
That last project did me in, at 3PM in the afternoon. So my helper friend finished the last 2 cabinets while I rested. Then he went on errands.
I found out the husband of one of the homeschooling moms from our Moms Night Out group had died relatively suddenly on July 6th. One of the other mom’s husband had died first back about 15 years ago. So we reached out to her to offer help and someone to talk to.
I got to bed around 9PM. It had been a cooler day, in the upper 70’s and wasn’t too bad for sleeping.
On Friday I will be digging garlic at 6AM and my #1 intern arrives at 8AM to help. My helper friend will also be here at 8AM but he will be staying inside due to his foot. So he will be cleaning something. All this ought to wipe me out by noon when they both leave. I hope we can finish the garlic by then.
