Laundry supervisor
On Monday morning I was up just after 5AM. I had to get the laundry started and then try to get out to mow as early as I could. It was to hit 90F by 11AM and I wanted to be done by then.
I had a lot of laundry to do as I was washing all the winter clothes to put away. I got it started, did a few things and got the house closed up against the heat.
Well fortified with bug spray against the mosquitoes, I got the mowers from the barn and got started around 8AM.
I noticed the milkweed had started to flower up at the barn when I got the mowers. The daylilies are just getting going. I’ve done pretty well this year catching things just as they start.
I did the push mower first as I always do. But when I finished it at nearly 9AM, I had to go inside and sit in the office where I had the AC going for about 20 minutes to cool down and rest.
I started the rider mowing at 9:15AM and finished at 10:45AM, I think the fastest I’ve ever done it. It was mighty hot when I got done. I got a cool shower and sat and rested for a while.
So sad, no cherries again this year. They looked so good earlier. Tom’s getting the tobacco netting this weekend. It might be soon enough to get Juneberries and definitely for elderberries. I haven’t checked the chokeberries. The peaches don’t look so good either; the ones on the Reliance tree are falling off. Sigh… maybe next year we’ll do better.
I spent the rest of the day quickly changing over laundry loads and then going back into to cooler office. The temps hit 100F by late afternoon and my little AC was struggling. It was upper 80’s in the house.
It never got as cool as the house (mid 80’sF) until 10PM so I was up late. I didn’t want to open the house up until it was at least as cool outside as the inside.
Tuesday is to be another scorcher. My helper friend comes at 9:30AM and we will be working in the office where it’s cool. We’ll be doing some spring cleaning as we never got this far in the spring. He also has errands to run and my brother and I are taking the truck in for inspection very first thing.
Mostly I plan to stay inside in the office.
