I felt a whole lot better than I had any reason to on Friday when I got up at 5:45AM, after a whole night in bed, after the trauma of Thursday. The face was pretty spectacular and my right hand had swollen and was hard to use. New bruises and lumps had appeared overnight all over but none hurt much.
I had planned to just lay on the couch and watch Call the Midwife, but life had other plans. My helper friend arrived at 8AM and he was going to process the squashes, but they had disappeared! We hunted all over but could not find them. Someone must have taken them home as instructed, though 2 of the 3 denied it.
My helper had come back upstairs with 4 butternuts he had deemed unfit. He’d gotten them out of the boxes. I asked him to make 2 of them but when I checked on him after doing the milk order, he had 3 done and was working on the 4th.
He then suggested trying roasting carrots in the mix, so I got some of mine out to try. In the process, we forgot the pears that went into the mix of squash, onion, and garlic and seasonings. I would have many days of munching with 2 batches of vegs.
It opened!
I ended up taking turns with him checking and stirring the vegs as they roasted all morning as he was vacuuming and might miss the timer ringing. They finished just as he left and I took them out and tried the carrots. They were so good! Definitely adding carrots to the mix from now on.
The 2nd bud will open Saturday morning
I had edited the photos for the post when I got up, done chores, and gotten a shower to wash the blood out of my hair by the time my helper had arrived at 8AM. But I’d not yet made breakfast and got that started around 9AM after getting the shades up and checking the stove.
The doctor’s office called mid morning and I had an appointment for mid afternoon and managed to get transport set up. Then when my helper left, I got the post written and up, ate some lunch and went to the appointment.
The “other guy” at the bottom with his spot of blood
The contractor pulled in right behind us when I got home and he asked me to go to the lumber yard to find the brackets for the stair railings. So I went back out and scared a few natives at the store and came back.
He got busy with the railings and I ate roasted vegs, got the mail, did chores, started stoves, pulled shades, did quality control checks when asked, and finally got to sit down at 5:30 to watch the videos.
He finished them about 6:45 and I went to bed about 8:30 after stoking stoves.
Saturday I plan to watch videos and not much else. No one is coming so it’s just stoves and chores and meals. The contractor is coming back on Sunday afternoon to start in the root cellar. So hopefully I will have 1½ days of rest.
