Sunrise
On Monday morning I was up at 3:45AM due to the time change. (It would have been 4:45AM the day before.) I got the post up and started paying bills/budget. I got a shower around 8AM and just after 9AM headed to the post office and to drop off my ballot.
But when I got home, suddenly I was exhausted and achy. I got laundry going and that was it for the rest of the day, except changing over laundry loads. It was a cold day and I also kept the fire in the wood stove going. I hadn’t lit the masonry heater the night before.
I got the heater going around 4PM as it was to be cold again, and had the wood stove going well.
On Sunday night the temps had plummeted to 26F.
I was getting ready for bed when I heard this beeping. I thought it was the solar inverter in the cellar, but it wasn’t doing it when I went to check it. It was intermittent, but constant in that it didn’t stop.
When the new inverter was installed in February 2024, I had gotten the phone number of the tech, who said to call if there were problems. It took quite a while to find the system’s information folder and the number. Turns out it’s disconnected. Sigh…
So I called Sunrun in California and was surprised someone answered as it was 8:15PM my time. I was on hold for half an hour while they “checked the system”. But they couldn’t do anything about the beeping and it might be 48 hours before they could.
source Worst customer service ever
The beeping could be heard throughout the house and this did not bode well for sleeping.
On Tuesday I felt even worse, not sick exactly, but very achy and exhausted. I hadn’t thought I’d done too much on Sunday, but maybe my body thought otherwise.
The beeping was still going on, just as before. But I couldn’t call until after noontime as they are on Pacific time.
I sat and finished the bill paying/budget, just before my helper friend arrived at 9:30AM. I debated about trying to go outside to the gardens as Tuesday had warmed up as fast as Monday had frozen. But I just couldn’t do it.
My brother helped me get a load in the dishwasher before he left for work. I sent my helper on errands and had him do some chores around the house. He left early as I didn’t have anything else for him.
I eventually got the kitchen cleaned up as we would need the sink for washing windows. My brother was going to help me get the storm doors set up and cleaned.
It was so warm on the front porch mid afternoon I had to put on a cooler shirt to work out there. We did the front first and then the back door. I still have to wash all 4 doors, 2 smaller windows upstairs, and 4 very small windows upstairs, plus the awning window in the spare room.
When we finished around 3PM, the beeping was still going on. I called and was told no case had been opened and no, I couldn’t talk to a supervisor of Customer Service, “because they had other jobs to do”. So nothing had been done and nothing would be done.
I told them I was not waiting 9 months again to get the system repaired and would be contacting the Better Business Bureau, my state representative, and the state department for Massachusetts, just as I had to do last time before they’d do anything. For good measure, I left a message for the escalations expert explaining what I would be doing, in case she wanted to stop things before they reached that level. But I never heard back.
SunRun has the WORST customer service I’ve ever experienced. Had we known this in 2011 we might have reconsidered going with them.
So Wednesday will be spent filing complaints and sending e-mails. Again. It’s supposed to be another lovely day outside and if I have any energy, I should try to get some gardens done.
