On Friday morning I got started on the office. I skipped over the hall, clean room, and bathroom because the office has 11 windows in it and we may be washing them on the 16th if the weather isn’t good.
I started with the area by the door, sorting and cleaning each item that had been pushed into the huge pile. I got my husband’s computer cleaned and put back together and set up over by the AC. The AC will be coming out this next week, due to possible window washing. I also cleaned it up while I was doing the area for the computer.
I found 2 large cast iron pots in the pile. Due to the high humidity all summer, they had started to rust. One was a good pot and the other had been mended but still leaked. I decided to use the leaker to hold the tiny kindling the masonry heater needs.
So I cleaned up the good pot and put it in the oven to re-season. I did it several times over the morning, then dragged out some of the others that needed it and started doing them.
In the middle of all this I stopped and washed down the outside of the door to the back porch so the carpenter could paint it.
My helper friend had come cleaned out the tomatoes and gotten the stakes pulled up. Then he started processing the Hungarian paprikas he’d harvested the week before. He didn’t finish that so I had to so they could go into the dehydrator. We’d forgotten to move the cabinet and the dehydrators from the dining room onto the porch, so I had to do that before I could start the paprikas.
A friend came by and took about 18 gourds, but that didn’t make a dent in the quantity out there.
By mid afternoon I was exhausted and quit for the day. My helper is coming in the morning on Saturday and we will resume on the office, probably working on the boxes of books and getting them into the attic or wherever.
I went outside at 6:45AM Friday morning and heard the owls calling. I’ve been hearing them for a couple weeks now. I don’t ever remember hearing them at this time in the autumn. There’s been deer most nights on the back 40.
Two nights ago I went up to do the cats at the barn and they were both in the butchershop. I discovered the reason why was a sparrow stuck in the bay window. Dennis the Girl was thoroughly disgusted with me when I caught it and released it outside. I am doubly on her bad books now, first the flea meds, and now taking her bird. I shall never be forgiven at this rate.
