West of Steps garden – daffodils up
On Friday morning I was up at 5AM and got my post up. Then I got the kitchen cleaned up and set up for making the brine for the corned beef. My helper friend arrived at 8AM while I was doing the milk order.
He went down to the cellar to sort the kindling bag that was left and I went down when I finished the order and we got it done. Not much left for starting the masonry heater. We’ll have to go out to the woodsheds next week when it is warm and see what we can scavenge there.
The job for the day was inventorying the new attic. It has 3 sections, over the kitchen where we started, over the bedroom, and over the living room. It took all morning to do but we finished it.
I had made a very rough map and numbered boxes and my helper wrote down what I found. I have been conscientious about labeling the outside of boxes about the complete contents so that helped a lot. I found a lot of things I wondered where they had gone and now I will know where everything up there is.
We had made the brine and put it outside to cool. It was sunny but cold and very windy. The brine had cooled by the time we finished the attic, so I got the beef into it and weighted down and my helper friend took it to the cellar fridge.
I was pretty tired by the time we finished at noon, so I sat and watched movies until the contractor arrived mid afternoon
In the saga of the clothes washer, he was next going to try to clean up the contacts on the timer, as replacing it is pretty expensive. So we sat and did that.
He, of course, had to be supervised.
Before he arrived, the mail had been delivered and I got a package from a friend. She had given me the set of china balls on the left a few years ago. But last year, she found a second set at a tag sale and got them for me. I love blue and these are so pretty!
New West garden – daffodils up
I never did get the cover on the couch properly, but someone doesn’t care…
I watched Hans Brinker or The Silver Skates in the evening.
My son says we are officially out of wood for the masonry heater, so we are having to use the wood stove wood. It doesn’t burn very well in the masonry heater, so I spent a good amount of time trying to get it going.
It’s to be cold and very windy all weekend. So I will be loading the stove a lot. I need to clean up the kitchen and plan to make legible maps and inventory lists over the weekend.
