On Thursday morning when I woke up it had dropped down into the mid 70’sF but was wicked humid. The forecast was for showers off and on and for the temperature to drop into the upper 60’s by late afternoon.
I had realized when I woke up that I had not been out in the gardens since Sunday when I did the peas. It was past time to harvest again. I filled the bowl to heaping in an hour.
I sat down and shelled and topped and tailed them all finishing around 11:45AM. I watched movies while I worked. They had gotten a bit too old and I had a lot of peas and not so many pods.
My helper friend arrived at noon and his foot had gotten much worse over the week. So I got him a stool and found sitting jobs for him, like packing the freezer boxes with processed peas. We got 8 pints this time.
The next job was to get the winter clothes upstairs and put away. Then get out the summer clothes. We finished that around 1:30PM.
He went to do a couple errands and I started emptying the office of things on the walls of the office. He had said he thought he could sit on the stool and vacuum sections of wall and ceiling.
I made many many trips to the kitchen with stuff needing cleaned. By the time he got back, I was exhausted. So I left him to it and went and lay down on the couch.
He finished about 3:30PM and decided to call it a day. He’s going to call sick in tomorrow and had a doctor’s appointment on Monday. I expect he’ll be out most of next week. Sigh… My #1 intern has left to take care of her sick grandma for a month and #2 is at college. I’ll have to see if #3 is interested in working next week.
It did get really cool by late afternoon and is to drop into the upper 50’s during the night, so a good sleeping night.
I’m hoping to get out and finish Row 2 in the New Herb garden in the morning. It’s going to be nice and cool. I have an event in the afternoon.
