New Herb garden
On Saturday morning I was up at 6AM, got the cat fed and the kitchen cleaned up. Then I started bringing boxes up from the cellar to put away the plant lights and bulbs.
My window helper arrived just after 8AM and he started carrying all the stuff downstairs. It was nearly 9AM before we finished that and got started on the windows.
We started with the last of the big windows as I wanted that behind me. Those are the hardest to do. Then we moved onto the door windows. I discovered one of the screens had been badly bent and we couldn’t fix it. So I put it in and put tape over the gap to keep the mosquitoes out.
We cleaned up the office and moved upstairs and got the 4 little windows and the awning window finished. We cleaned up there and moved down to the laundry room to do the first storm door.
The main screen doors have protective screening on the bottom and a push bar. These have to come off to change from storm to screen. We had a heck of a time getting one of the bolts through on the lower left corner; it took us about 20 minutes. We’d just finished putting it together when my #1 intern arrived to take me plant shopping and do errands.
So we stopped doing windows. There were 2 left to do. My brother will have to help me with the storm door but I can do the last by myself.
I got changed and we headed out to do errands. But the traffic was horrible and we later found out it was Pride Day. So we got part of one errand done and decided to do the others another time. So we headed out for plant shopping.
We went to the Farmers’ Market north of the farm first but none of the vendors I buy plants from was there. I got some pansies as I’d never gotten out to get any in April.
We stopped at a little nursery in my town on the way home and got a whole bunch more plants. But their lemon verbena plants failed and they didn’t have candytuft.
It had started to rain when we were north but we drove out of it heading south. By the time we finished at the nursery, the clouds were closing in again.
We got home and got the car unloaded and sat down to chat for a while. A little while later it started to rain. Saturday was the first day I had opened all the windows in the house, so we were zooming around shutting them as needed.
She left after that and I made a late lunch and sat down to watch the last episode of M.A.S.H.
My brother had been working on the tractor for quite a while. It seems it will run, but he can’t shift gears. My older brother seems to think the clutch has fused. It’s often sat all winter without being driven, but I guess this was the last straw. I hope he can get it to break loose.
Once he’d given up for the day, he went and got us some fish cakes for supper. We had them with big salads.
I watched No Direction Home: Bob Dylan, a documentary about him. I didn’t finish it as I was pretty worn out.
On Sunday it’s to rain all day. I have posts to write, a kitchen to clean up, bills/budget to finish, and the estate inventory to work on. Plus my brother wants to tackle the last storm door and get that done. I should do the other door, but I have to be outside for some of it, so we will see. And I have a movie to finish.
