On Tuesday morning I got out just before 7AM and got the calendula deadheaded and picked. It all went into the bowl, so I will have to sort it out later when I put it on the dehydrator trays. It’s hard enough bending to pick so I combine the chores and just do it once.
I also picked all the too big cukes and the ripe tomatoes. When I came inside I made my first tomato sandwich.
I started on the north end of the garden and weeded to the south. I cut back or moved the pumpkin and squash vines as I went. This lacinato kale has done pretty well this year.
The parsley didn’t look too bad once I got the vines off it.
I had wanted to deadhead the basil, but I couldn’t get to it or in places, even see it. So I attacked the pumpkins and hacked away at the vines. This is the pile I cut off.
I don’t know how well the poor basil will fare, as I had to pull the vines off it in several places. By the time I made it to the back fence, I was done. I left the whole mess right where it was. I’d lasted 2 hours in the humidity. I’ll have to get out on Thursday morning to finish it.
Before the carpenter left we baited the trap with banana and peanut butter and put it in the Big garden near the comfrey.
The wood man’s son came after work to get the cordwood in the shed. It was wicked humid, but not as hot as predicted. There was also a slight breeze. He got half of it done.
But as he was getting ready to start he caught sight of the woodchuck hightailing it for the woods. So it had climbed out of the garden. Now I wonder if the trap is on the correct side of the gate…
On Wednesday I hope my intern will be here. I plan to work inside, trying to finish up the new pantry.
