Saucer magnolia buds swelling
Saturday when it finally warmed up I headed out and got some raking done. I was working near the Small garden and remembered I’d never uncovered the bulb pots we put in there in December. So I pulled the hay off. They didn’t do as well as the Big garden pots.
The guys returned with a truckload of bulk order stuff and once that was unloaded and put away, I took the camera to the Big garden.
This bulb bed on the northeast corner drew me first. I am so pleased this system worked to save the bulbs. They are doing really well! We’re to have rain on Tuesday, so I must get as many bulb areas cleared and fertilized by then as I can.
The chives are doing well. I saw a method of making eggs into rolls and I plan to harvest some of these to put into the rolls for supper Saturday night.
This is the bulb bed in the southeast corner, and it doesn’t show well here but those flowers pulled me over.
The color is much more vivid that these photos show. These are chiondoxas.
Closer inspection showed me these little beauties! I’ve got 1 bulb I saved of the pink ones!
This is most of that bed.
As I was heading out I looked into the lily of the valley bed and found these 2 snow crocus. The bulbs were embedded in the root mat so I left them. These 2 survived.
I knew there were at least 5 puschkinia bulbs in there, but only this one came up. I will have to make a bulb order for this fall, if time permits.
On Sunday, more raking, and then I really should work on the Big garden’s fence line for a while. My husband contacted the excavating contractor. We have 3 little jobs for him, and one is moving the azalea to the southeast corner of the addition, from the Big garden. Once that’s done, I must get the fence up.
