On Tuesday morning when my helper friend came, the first thing we did was work on the seedlings. The Walla Walla Sweet onions had come up on last Thursday, but we did not thin them, just took the covers off and moved them off the heat mat. There were 2 trays that had not yet come up on the heat mat, along with the ginger.
These are the 2 storage onions that have been under a T5 light continuously. They are so much stronger and taller than the ones under the T12 lights.
I’d turned the 8’ heat mat under the T5 lights off and moved all the upstairs onions from under the T12 lights to this array of T5. These Wallas had been under a T12 light and were moved to this T5 to stay until seed starting on Sunday. Big difference between them and the ones always under T5. MUST get T5 next year…
Because the 8’ mat was turned off, we moved the 4’ mat under the small T5 light and then moved the ginger to the floor, under that light. This pot has not had any new sprouts since last week
This pot had no sprouts last week and now has 3.
This pot had 1, I think, last week and now has 4. By the end of the day on Tuesday one of those sprouts was 4” long and unfurling its first leaf.
These are the kale downstairs in the kitchen, under T12 lights. They have fallen over, even though the light is at the correct height.
The only one that has done at all well under the T12 lights is the mesclun, opening photo. I had to separate the pots so the leaves would not grow into a solid mat. But even those have fallen over a bit.
I drench feed the seedlings as needed using PlantSure, SeaCrop, Neptune, Pepzyme, and ArmorSi. My helper fed them when we’d finished thinning and moving trays.
The rest of the day was spent doing laundry and resting on the couch watching 800 Words. Not a great day…
