On Friday I was up at 4:30AM because I had to package the butter so I could get the dishwasher running with the glass dishes. It took me almost 1½ hours to do it. It was still a bit crumbly from all the working the day before and there were 11.88 lbs of butter!
This far surpasses what we’ve gotten from 2 gallons of milk in the past. It puts us at around 42 lbs of butter for the year so far.
I got the dishwasher running and had to sit down for a while. Next I got my breakfast and chores done. When my helper friend arrived at 8AM I still had to empty the dishwasher and reload it and finish cleaning the kitchen while he churned. I had forgotten to put the cream in the oven to warm until 7AM but it turns out it was just right.
Once he had the first batch (we only got 1 gallon of cream, not sure why the shortage) churned, I immediately started washing it before it could warm up. I finished it just as he finished the last churning and he washed that while I cleaned up the kitchen.
We finished around 9:30 and the estimator for the temporary ramp install arrived. It will be installed for my mom’s visit so she can get in and out of the house more easily.
Once that was done, I spent a considerable amount of time trying to find some comfy pajama pants like the ones I’d found at the thrift store a couple weeks ago.
While I was doing this, my helper friend was outside weeding the New South garden. It was supposed to start thunderstorms around 10AM but they never happened all day. When he left at 11:30 I just laid down and read, waiting for the thunderstorms.
These Fence gardens have gone wild, not having been cleaned out since 2019.
I still have hopes of getting to them this summer.
On Saturday I’ve got to get the trash shed cleaned out as early as I can so we can go to the dump at 9AM. Not sure what else I will do as I’m going to look at cats at the local shelter. They are having half price day in the afternoon so I’m hoping I can find a mellow cat. My neighbor is taking me.
