We have heavy roller shades for each window. In the winter pulling them when the sun goes down adds another 5° to the inside temperature. They don’t go up until the sun is up, usually.
But yesterday was to be a clear and sunny day, and the dawn light filtered through at 6:15 AM. So I put the shades up on the dining room window to enjoy the sunrise while I had my cup of tea.
My morning tea has been Bigelow’s English Breakfast. I was running low and went to order more. I had had Bigelow’s over my favorite Twinings because that’s what BJ’s Wholesale had in bulk. So I thought, why order Bigelow’s, maybe Twinings offers a bulk package.
They did. But then I saw they offered organic teas, so I checked for organic English Breakfast. They offered a “Breakfast” tea, so I got a small package to try out. I found it weak and insipid once it arrived. So I ordered the bulk package of Twinings. It’s nice having my favorite tea again.
I tend to make the tea to steep (or stew as my helper friend calls it) while I clean up the kitchen and feed the cat each morning. This means it could sit there for 15 minutes before I remember to take the bag out. Then I add a little organic sugar and lots of organic raw cream to fill the cup to the top.
I sit at the table and watch the sun come up and read through the recent magazines (AARP, AAA, Smithsonian, Discover, National Geographic, Living) or catalogs.
My favorite catalogs are Vermont Country Store, Acorn, and Victorian Trading Co. I almost never order anything, but do like looking through these. This year I’ve not been so enthusiastic about the seed catalogs because I still have no idea what I’m going to do about the farm or gardens.
Fedco’s offers the best reading, with interesting bits about each plant. Johnny’s has the best photos.
About 8:30 AM the old cat started the yowling again, while sitting at her water bowl. She kept it up for about an hour, while I tried to find a vet, to no avail. Finally she went to sleep and seemed fine the rest of the day. No idea what it was about, but she did seem distressed. I was wondering if it was dementia and she’d forgotten how to drink…
Saturday was quiet and I spent the day photographing and posting all the books and items I’d collected to put on BuyNothing. I had 4 items picked up that afternoon, but no interest in the books. Too bad as there’s 6 boxes of them, so far.
I read off and on. I’d read several of Robert Parker’s books in the last week or 2. I’d decided to start Marcia Muller’s series at the beginning. I’m on her 3rd book, The Cheshire Cat’s Eye.
In the afternoon I vacuumed and washed the floors. They had been trashed by the workmen all week. After a supper of salmon and peas, I watched Tales from the Green Valley, mostly with my eyes shut…. I’ve watched it several times and just listening suffices now.
Sunday is to be sunny and clear and I have nothing planned. I have to haul in lots of wood and there’s plenty other else I could do but we’ll see what transpires.
