On Saturday, I had too much to do before I left at 7:30 AM for the tag sales, so we were late leaving, not til 7:45. We headed straight up the highway to the first one that had canning jars. Boy was that the jackpot!
I was looking for the regular mouth pint jars, and she gave me a half dozen she found. But there was a huge stack of regular and wide mouth quarts (that I didn’t need) and boxes and boxes of wide mouth pints! There was also a big box of jelly jars that included some odd size ones.
I took all the pints and the jelly jars. I didn’t get a great price on them, at $5/dozen, but it was a whole lot better than the store price at this time. I got 7+ dozen of the pints, a couple dozen 1 cup jelly jars, a dozen 1½ cup jelly jars and a half a dozen of the odd size jelly jars.
I have long wanted to start using glass jars to freeze instead of my very old freezer boxes. I never did before because I didn’t have enough jars and because with my husband and son rummaging around the freezers I was afraid they get broken. Now I don’t have to worry about that and next year I can start using them.
The boxes and jars were very dirty so they all went through the dishwasher and I used 20# blueberry boxes and made dividers for them.
I found an odd shaped jar at the bottom of one box (center). I was looking for the pints on the right, but ended up with the pint on the left. I’ve not seen a jar like the center one, a Kerr, before. It’s almost a pint I think but with a wide mouth.
I could get 15 of the wide mouth jars in a box and 24 of the jelly jars. The dividers keep them from banging together and chipping, not good when canning. They also stay much cleaner, just need heated in boiling water for 10 minutes to be ready to use.
I also got 19 DVDs to replace videos or DVDs that don’t work as well. I’d already put some away.
I had laid out a big loop for the tag sale route and the next tag sale got me Christmas stuff. The 3rd one I got this fan for my tenant’s room. I also got him a quilt for the bed for $3. It’s washed and on his bed now.
The last tag sale netted me this giant ornament box for $7. By then we were nearly out of money and it was 10:30 and I was tired, so we went home.
When we got home my intern was there and she wanted to go through the housewares boxes to select what she wanted. Her sister arrived later and helped. She ended up taking 4 boxes with her and left 4 boxes in the living room. They need to be repacked and taken to the attic. She said she’d do it next weekend.
I spent the day making boxes and running loads through the dishwasher. My tenant went out and started the weedwacking of the perimeter of the pastures and checking fences.
On Sunday my friend is coming at 8:30 and we will make all the spaghetti sauce. That will wipe me out as it’s to be in the 80’s. But it’s to rain on Monday so I can be crashed.
