On Friday morning I was up around 6AM and once the dying cat was fed, I got my post up. When I put the shades up, most of the snow was gone from the rain. I started on the New Herb garden plan. First, I updated the 2025 plan so it would carry forward to the new plan.
I figured out placement for some of the herbs I grow, but there are a lot of empty spaces for possible new ones this year. I need to go through the catalogs and see what I’d like.

I had to stop at 8AM and get ready for exercise class. I got the laundry folded and some of it put away before I left for class. It had turned really cold and there was a stiff wind. I sure was glad to get back home to my wood stove.
Someone else had another better idea for staying warm in the morning…
When I had gone upstairs to pull up shades, I decided to get all the Christmas boxes out and sort out the ones I’d need for putting away decorations. I hoped the woman coming could carry them down for me.
At lunch time I saw a flurry of activity on the feeders and a flock of blackbirds was out there. They chased away most of the little birds.
When the new helper #2 arrived at 12:30PM she did a few chores and helped me clean up the kitchen. Then she brought the boxes down after I gave her a house tour.
We started collecting the decorations from the kitchen, dining room, and living room and packing them away. We got 1 big box done and several small ones and she took them back upstairs.
The supervisor was sloughing off again. He must think now he’s 11 he doesn’t need to work. Or maybe it’s because my youngest brother found a video series called Orange and Unemployed and keeps saying that to him…
We reached a point where we were changing out the Christmas linens for the everyday ones. It took a while but I finally found the long one for the sofa table. It hadn’t been ironed after being washed, so I had to do that.
We also got the wreaths and kissing ball inside before the snow! They are hanging to dry before being put in the attic.
So the addition is finished; I just have to do the office now. She ran a couple errands before she left at 4:15PM.
I was so tired! I got supper made and eaten and got the house ready for the night, the stoves going well and was in bed by 8:30PM.
On Saturday my brothers are coming for lunch. My youngest brother is making parsnip chowder from my parsnips and chicken stock. The other 2 are coming from Connecticut and bringing lots of popovers and éclairs for dessert.
I plan to have the Christmas tree on all day as it’s to snow off and on all day. I also hope I remember to turn on my “moldies” music too. I might get some more decorations put away before lunch, we’ll see…
