Now we’ve had some decent rain, many of the vegetables are doing better. The onions above, on left, are the storage onions. They are doing very well. The Walla Walla Sweet onions on the right haven’t done well since transplanting. They did not cope well with the drought either.
The kale is doing very well, but the broccoli less so.
The tomatoes and lone pepper have done well and need tied up yet again.
The peas are doing well so far in this heat. The squashes didn’t take off as I hoped with the heat and rain.
I’ve been watching these zucchinis for a week and waiting for them to be big enough for zoodling. Maybe in a couple more days…
The first summer squash is coming along nicely.
The mesclun beds are going strong, through all this heat.
The artichokes probably got their required 3 weeks of 50F temperatures in May, it was so cold. They didn’t do so well in the drought, but have perked up with the rain and foliar feeding. Hopefully they will set buds.
I noticed yesterday the garlic in the Small garden had the first brown lower leaf. They will need harvested soon, and I have no picnic table to work on! I will have to figure out another system for this year.
